As winter break approaches, the window to abundant options for food and drink on campus is closing. After the fall quarter ends Friday (Dec. 13), many campus services will be reduced until the first day of winter instruction on Jan. 6.

Food and coffee

Friday is the last day open of 2024 for most food and coffee locations on campus, including most of the Coffee House, all dining commons and Dining Services eateries, and all Peet’s locations. The sole exception is Swirlz in the Coffee House, which will be open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. next week (Dec. 16-20).

Crepe Bistro in the Silo is already closed for winter break, and several of the remaining locations operated by Dining Services will close earlier than usual on Friday.

The Segundo Dining Commons will open for dinner (5-8 p.m.) on Jan. 4 and from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Jan. 5. All other campus eateries and coffee locations will reopen the following day, Jan. 6.

The will be open every day through Dec. 20. Starting the next day, it will be closed through Jan. 5, reopening Jan. 6.

Holiday heat shutdown

Facilities Management’s Energy and Engineering team routinely turns off heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems over holidays and long weekends to save energy. This year’s schedule corresponds with the university holidays: Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

So, if you’re coming to your office Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30, Jan. 2 and 3, rest assured the heat will be on.

The long-weekend shutdowns apply only to noncritical spaces; laboratories and animal spaces are not affected. Also, spaces that are reserved for events through Conference and Event Services are not affected.
