The University of California, Davis, School of Law will hold two events addressing current topics: a lecture focusing on a case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court on public prayer and religious displays, and a symposium addressing the challenges in achieving corporate social responsibility. Both events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Nov. 19, Barrett Lecture on Constitutional Law: Professor Alan Brownstein
Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom, 51ԹϺ Davis School of Law (King Hall) room 1001, 4 p.m. The 2013 Edward L. Barrett Jr. Lecture on Constitutional Law will feature Alan E. Brownstein, 51ԹϺ Davis professor of law, Boochever and Bird Chair for the Study of Teaching of Freedom and Equality. The lecture is titled: “Coercion and Endorsement: Constitutional Challenges to State Sponsored Prayers at Local Government Meetings.” Brownstein will preview Town of Greece v. Galloway, a case pending before the Supreme Court this term on prayer at public meetings. The Edward L. Barrett Jr. Lectureship on Constitutional Law was established in 1986 to mark the retirement of King Hall's founding dean, Edward L. Barrett Jr., and the law school's 20th anniversary. .
Thursday, Nov. 21, Business Law Journal Symposium: ‘Challenges in Achieving Corporate Social Responsibility’
Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom, 51ԹϺ Davis School of Law (King Hall) room 1001, noon to 5 p.m. The symposium features business and legal experts addressing the hurdles companies face when attempting to embrace Corporate Social Responsibility, commonly known as CSR. Topics include alternative corporate structures and corporate philanthropy. Speakers hail from 51ԹϺ Davis, 51ԹϺ Berkeley, Georgetown and leading law firms. .
