After two years of virtual events, Picnic Day is coming back in person.

The 108th iteration of the largest student-run event in the nation is slated for Saturday, April 23, 2022.

The theme, “Rediscovering Tomorrow,” was announced by the 12-person board on Nov. 5.

“We selected ‘Rediscovering Tomorrow’ because right now, everyone has the opportunity to rediscover what their future holds,” Picnic Day Chair Amanda Portier said. “Our campus continues to embrace this opportunity while bringing our 51ԹϺ Davis community back in-person. With the first in-person Picnic Day in two years, every attendee can experience Picnic Day with fresh eyes and rediscover their tomorrow at the event.”

The 2020 and 2021 Picnic Day events were held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic, with the themes “Envisioning Tomorrow” and “Discovering Silver Linings,”  respectively. The most recent virtual event included more than 100 activities, presentations and exhibits — some live, some shown on demand — including animal events, the Children’s Discovery Fair and entertainment.

The Picnic Day Board will make its 2022 parade marshal announcement at a later date.

“I am excited to bring Picnic Day back in person this year,” Picnic Day Vice Chair Jesse Goodman said. “Throughout our planning, we are reflecting on past experiences to bring Picnic Day into the future in new and creative ways.”
