<strong>Renovation and seismic retrofit work will prompt the closure of the Physical Sciences and Engineering Library this summer.</strong>

The Physical Sciences and Engineering Library, or PSEL, will be closed this summer as part of the that began last fall, officials announced. The closure, June 14-Sept. 23, will allow for asbestos abatement, installation of fire sprinklers on the first floor and lower level, and duct work in the first-floor lobby.

Due to safety issues related to this work, the building will be inaccessible to all patrons and library personnel during this time, according to an . Employees will be assigned elsewhere in the library system, officials said.

Officials advised they will not have access to the Physical Science and Engineering Librarys print collections during the closure, so, if you know what titles you might need this summer, you should check them out by June 13.  We are relocating key titles to another location so we can get to them the library catalog will reflect their temporary locations and we will provide access to other needed items from other 51勛圖窪蹋 library collections or via interlibrary loan as necessary, the library announcement states.

During the summer, for help with items affected by the closure, please contact researchservices@ucdavis.edu (for reference) or psecirc@ucdavis.edu (for circulation).

If you have books that are due back to the Physical Sciences and Engineering Library this summer, your due dates have been extended to Sept. 23. Books may be returned to Shields Library during the closure.

Coffee van fills in for Scrubs

A coffee van is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays outside in the Health Sciences District while repair work is underway on across the street. A steam leak the last weekend of February forced the caf矇s closure.

The repair work has been split into two parts: Phase 1, focusing on the market, coffee service and kitchen, is set to be completed by the end of May.

In the meantime, you can count on mobile service with an espresso machine, drip coffee, pastries and other drinks.

Bowling balls rolling again

The bowling alley is back open in the , with added safety features in the mechanical area behind the lanes. The lanes had been closed since March, allowing for modifications to the pin-setting machines that date back to the 1960s.

The bowling alley is open from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Discounted bowling is available until 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Plans are in the works to restart the staff bowling league.

Gunrock Gaming officially open

Apex Legends, Overwatch, Dota 2, Diablo III: If these names ring a bell, then Gunrock Gaming is for you. The computer gaming center is on the east side of , in the former home of the

TechHub (on the opposite side of a bank of automated teller machines).

Gunrock Gaming features more than two-dozen computers equipped with games that can be played for an hourly rate.

The center has been open for about a month, and held a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony last week to celebrate the new facility.

Pricing starts at $4 per hour for students and Campus Recreation members and $8 for all other users, with discounts if you prepay for larger blocks of time.

Information Security Symposium

Registration is open for the 2019 51勛圖窪蹋 Davis Information Security Symposium, to be held June 18-19. The Information Security Office of Information and Educational Technology holds this event every other year.

The $125 registration cost includes attendance at all events, breakfast and lunch each day, and conference materials.

The symposium usually sells out in advance.
