ARBORETUM PLANT FAIRE OPENS IN NEW TEACHING NURSERY -- Oct. 4 (Saturday) -- The best plants and techniques for Valley-wise gardening will be showcased at the 34th annual Friends of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis Arboretum Plant Faire, as the arboretum celebrates the grand opening of its new teaching nursery. The annual plant sale will be open to the general public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a preview sale for arboretum members only from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The new teaching nursery is located on Garrod Drive, east of the William R. SPEAKER: COMPARING FUTURES FOR THE SACRAMENTO-SAN JOAQUIN DELTA -- Oct. 9 (Thursday) -- Engineering professor Jay Lund reviews the long-term problems of the delta and a formal analysis of alternative strategies for managing delta water exports. Lund will summarize a recent multidisciplinary research report by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis in cooperation with the Public Policy Institute of California. (The report is available at: .) STEBBINS COLD CANYON NATURE OUTINGS -- Oct. 11 (Saturday) through Dec. 21 (Sunday) -- The fall 2008 series of events at Stebbins Cold Canyon Natural Reserve kicks off Oct. 11 with "Music, Friends & Cold Canyon" from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Hike to the old homestead for music inspired by the quiet time of dusk. Bring your voice, any other musical instruments, and a song. The Nature Outing program offers a diverse menu of themed outings that explore the natural history and natural beauty within the canyon.
