THE DOWNLOAD: Grapes as Hearts, Student Films, 51ԹϺ Walks

Doctors learning to perform fetal heart surgery need only look to the grocery store for practice materials.

Frank Ing, chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at 51ԹϺ Davis Children’s Hospital, uses grapes embedded in tubs of gelatin to give would-be surgeons a way to learn fetal heart intervention.

Using ultrasound, the students find the “heart” in the gelatin and practice inserting a needle. See how the procedure works in the above video.
