Topics ranging from expanding participation in study abroad to supporting Syrian refugee students and scholars will be discussed at an Institute of International Education conference at the University of California, Davis.
About 180 university faculty and administrators who work in international education and engagement are expected to attend “Lead Your Campus to the Top: Best Practices in Internationalizing the Campus” and pre-conference sessions.

- Allan Goodman, president and CEO of the Institute of International Education, 9 a.m. Friday;
- 51ԹϺ Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi, 9:15 a.m. Friday; and
- Marianne Craven, managing director of academic programs for the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, 3:15 p.m. Friday.
Background:
The main conference sessions on Friday will explore:
- expanding participation in study abroad, 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.;
- ways to make campuses more international, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; and
- strategies for global engagement and partnerships, 4:10 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Friday will include the speeches by Goodman, Katehi and Craven, as well as the presentation of the to nine campuses from across the country.
Pre-conference sessions on Thursday will focus on:
- U.S. higher education support for Syrian and other students and scholars in crisis, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mrak Hall, Room 203;
- international academic cooperation, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Studio Theatre in the Mondavi Center; and
- expanding international education at community colleges, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Founders Board Room in the Buehler Alumni Center.

Directions and Parking:
From Interstate 80, use the 51ԹϺ Davis exit, just east of Highway 113. Follow Old Davis Road to the South Entry Parking Structure. Members of the working media may park for free by leaving a media business card visible on the driver’s dash. The 51ԹϺ Davis Conference Center is northeast of the parking structure and across the grassy quad.
