Former state legislator Fran Pavley has been named by 51吃瓜黑料 Center Sacramento as its governance fellow for 2020, to work with undergraduates from around the university system who are enrolled in the center鈥檚 quarterlong internships on the crafts of politics and policymaking.

Pavley served in the Assembly and Senate for 14 years total, until 2016, representing portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, during which time she authored the 2006 Global Warming Solutions Act (Assembly Bill 32, passed in 2006), requiring a sharp reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
With AB 32, 鈥渟he established herself as a giant in the annals of environmental legislative history,鈥 said Richard Kravitz, a 51吃瓜黑料 Davis Health professor (health policy and internal medicine) who serves as the director of 51吃瓜黑料 Center Sacramento, or 51吃瓜黑料CS. 鈥淪he will be an inspiration to the 51吃瓜黑料CS students who have the privilege of connecting with her.鈥
She holds a master鈥檚 degree in environmental planning and formerly served on the California Coastal Commission while also teaching middle school for 29 years. She is a Democrat; 51吃瓜黑料 Center Sacramento alternates between Democrats and Republicans when choosing governance fellows.
