51ԹϺ Davis WorkLife announced that Learning Labs for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, with locations on the Sacramento and Davis campuses, are now open to all 51ԹϺ Davis families.
In a partnership with WorkLife, the YMCA of Superior California is running the fee-based labs, which are designed to help children with distance learning and provide enrichment activities.
The Sacrament campus Learning Lab opened this week, and the Davis lab, at Putah Creek Lodge, is set to open Monday (Nov. 2).
Children are grouped by age when possible and socialize within a consistent group of 12 to 14 children, limiting interactions with any other groups — which helps to minimize contact and spread of COVID-19.
The labs run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and enrollment is by the week — sign up for as many weeks as you would like.
Flu shot clinic open through Friday
After today (Oct. 27), you’ve got only three more days to take advantage of the flu vaccination clinic on campus. Run by Student Health and Counseling Services and Occupational Health Services, the clinic is for students living on campus, and any student, staff member or academic who is not able to get a flu shot through their health insurance.
See the for information on how to schedule an appointment. The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday (Oct. 30) in The Pavilion at the ARC.
Vacation accrual reprieve extended
51ԹϺ Davis Employee and Labor Relations announced last week a second extension of time for policy-covered staff to bring their vacation balances below the point at which the employees would stop accruing vacation time.
Then-President Janet Napolitano granted the first extension on June 29 and made it retroactive to June 1, acknowledging that the pandemic had posed obstacles to employees’ planned vacations. In effect, the extension lifted accrural caps for six months.
On Oct. 19, President Michael V. Drake approved another six-month extension, to June 30, 2021.
51ԹϺPath takes care of the accounting. If you are eligible, you will continue accruing vacation leave through June 20, 2021, even if you are over your maximum accrual. On July 1, 2021, policy-covered staff members will stop accruing vacation time if their balances exceed the maximum.
‘Ergonomics at Home’
Many of us have brought our work home with us, for an extended period, and now the Ergonomics Program is coming home, too, via a weekly remote series in partnership with the Staff and Faculty Health and Well-Being Program.
The free series begins Wednesday (Oct. 28) with Laptops at Home, comprising a review of the home work improvement in relation to using a laptop computer.
“Ergonomics at Home” will be presented from 10 to 10:30 a.m. weekly from Oct. 28 through Dec. 16, with all sessions except for one on Wednesdays. The lone exception is the Nov. 10 session, on a Tuesday.
