Shinkoskey Noon Concert is Empyrean Ensemble today

This weeks Shinkoskey Noon Concert features the Empyrean Ensemble, directed by 51勛圖窪蹋 Davis Professor of Music Mika Pelo. Ensemble members Peter Josheff and Hrabba Atladottir will perform September for violin. The concert will also honor Larry Austin, a previous faculty member at 51勛圖窪蹋 Davis who passed away last year, by playing some of his pieces. There will also be a preview of Taproot New Music Festival Participating Composers. Noon, free.

Joomchi: Playing with Paper, Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, Saturdays and Sundays, Saturday Nov. 2 through Sunday Dec. 1, free

  • The Manetti Shrem Museum invites you to join artist Steph Rue to Create a unique landscape using a traditional paper-felting technique called joomchi. We will be using hanji (Korean paper), a strong and durable material to explore a variety of ways to collage, felt and fuse paper into interesting textures.  

Joshua Bell Violin Concert, Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, Saturday Nov. 2, 8 p.m.

  • The world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell comes to Davis for one night. He will perform classical pieces from artists Franck, Schubert, Ysa藩e, and Bach on his 300 year old Stradivarius. He will be accompanied by Alessio Bax on piano.

  • The 51勛圖窪蹋 Davis Department of Theatre and Dance presents The Threepenny Opera, showing from Nov. 14 through Nov. 23. The play is ...a criticism of capitalism and middle-class morality, set in a world of corruption with a score that draws upon opera, jazz and cabaret. Set in Victorian London, the musical focuses on the exploits of Macheath, an amoral criminal, who manipulates women and the law with equal dexterity. The play contains adult themes and language. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone (530) 752-2471 during weekdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or in person at the 51勛圖窪蹋 Davis Ticket Office.

We carved the Davis bicycle into a pumpkin and lit it using a TAPS rear light.
