Dear students,
Congratulations! You submitted your college applications. This marks a major milestone in your academic journey. Feel proud of the effort, time and dedication you put in over the last couple of months. Now comes the dreaded waiting period — a time filled with both anticipation and nerves.
This holiday season I want to share some advice to help you navigate this time with a sense of calm and balance.
Take this opportunity to rest
The college admissions process is no small feat. You spent hours, days, weeks and months to prepare your application. Use this newfound downtime — don't let your grades slip, though — to recharge. Catch up on sleep, enjoy holiday traditions with family and friends or dive into a hobby that brings you joy. You deserve a break from the grind.
Find ways to step away from the digital world
Constant social media updates from various accounts can create unnecessary stress. I encourage you to put your phone down and spend time outdoors. Take a hike, stroll through your neighborhood or simply sit in the fresh air. If you can’t head outside — for anyone who’s snowed in — read a book, try a new recipe or participate in an indoor workout class. A couple of minutes away from devices helps to ground you and declutter your thoughts.
Reflect on your achievements
While it’s natural to think about what’s ahead, remember that your college decisions don’t define you. You worked hard; feel confident that your effort will lead to great opportunities no matter what you end up doing. This waiting period offers a chance to reflect on your accomplishments thus far and embrace the possibilities to come.
Take a deep breath and enjoy this season of rest and renewal. You did your part and that’s something to celebrate.
Warm regards,
Robert Penman
