Record-Breaking Haul for Fourth Annual Employee Giving Supplies Drive

The results are in for the fourth annual Employee Giving Supplies Drive, and the outcome is record-breaking. This year’s drive brought in an impressive 1,853 pounds of non-perishable food and toiletries — surpassing last year’s total by more than 100 pounds. These generous donations will go directly to students through the AS51�ԹϺ��D Pantry and Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center.

Employee Giving Participation Rises for Both Faculty and Staff

More than 10% of the 22,950 full-time faculty and staff have donated to 51�ԹϺ�� Davis to date in the 2022-23 fiscal year. This participation rate is a significant jump from last year, when 8% of full-time employees donated. In particular, the rise in full-time faculty participation stands out with a 4-percentage-point increase from the previous fiscal year (8% in 2021-22 to 12% in 2022-23).

A Rising Tide of Employee Giving

Employee giving at 51�ԹϺ�� Davis is on the upswing, generating more than $3 million so far this fiscal year — up from some $1.7 million at the end of June 2021.

That generosity includes enthusiastic participation during April’s Employee Giving Month, when nearly 2,000 faculty and staff across 51�ԹϺ�� Davis and 51�ԹϺ�� Davis Health donated more than $240,000.

As a professor and chair of the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Fadi Fathallah donates to programs he cares about at 51�ԹϺ�� Davis. They include Global Affairs’ Study Abroad programs and his department’s Excellence Fund, which offer students life-changing learning experiences.

“In giving, we are helping our community grow stronger and healthier,” said Fathallah, who serves as a member of the 51�ԹϺ�� Davis Employee Giving Advisory Committee.

Employee Giving Comes Back Strong

Employee Giving Month came roaring back after a hiatus for the pandemic last year, bringing in robust numbers of participants and gifts across both the Davis and Sacramento campuses.

Some 2,200 employees participated, donating a total 3,601 gifts amounting to $257,765 – up from 1,829 participants and 2,811 gifts in 2019.

Kate Shasky, co-chair of the Employee Giving Committee, is thankful for a show of support that exceeded a quarter-million dollars.
