These students — many of whom are the first in their families to attend college — contribute to our rich diversity of cultures and perspectives that is integral to our success as a global university.

Chancellor May Applauds Supreme Court DACA Decision

Today marks a significant victory in the name of social equity. I’m pleased to share that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program. The DACA program allows immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to live and work in the country they know as home.

The University of California issued the following statement in response to a federal district court’s decision Jan. 9 on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

The University of California is pleased and encouraged that the court has granted an injunction to temporarily stop the Department of Homeland Security’s rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

51�ԹϺ�� Davis Chancellor Gary S. May spoke at a Capitol Hill news conference today (Oct. 25) in support of the Dream Act — legislation that would counteract President Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

DACA affords undocumented immigrants known as “Dreamers,” who came to the United States as children, the right to stay in the country. But Trump says, no more: DACA ends March 5.

Chancellor May in D.C., Speaking on DACA

Chancellor Gary S. May will join top congressional Democrats at a Capitol Hill news conference Wednesday (Oct. 25) in support of “Dreamers” and legislation under which they could stay in the United States to continue their education and contribute to society without fear of deportation.

May and one other university leader, Chancellor Kristina Johnson of the State University of New York, will give remarks, along with Sens. Dianne Feinstein of California and Richard Durbin of Illinois.
