NEWS BRIEFS: Free Rides Can’t Be ‘Spared’

So far this year, Unitrans has done its part to “Spare the Air” 19 days, waiving fares for all passengers. Unfortunately, Unitrans can no longer spare the expense and will discontinue the free-ride program from Monday, Aug. 27, through the end of the year.

Updated 4:45 p.m. Aug. 18: Officials have declared another Spare the Air Day for Sunday, Aug. 19 — the 19th such declaration in the region this year. Unitrans will waive all fares Sunday, but the transit system's practice of providing free rides on Spare the Air days will come to an end Monday, Aug. 27. Complete information in the article below.

NEWS BRIEFS: Spare the Air, Spare Us Some Heat!

Wednesday (June 21) has been declared a Spare the Air day in the Sacramento region, due to ground-level ozone pollution, while on campus we’re sparing people the heat of an outdoor concert — by moving the Wednesday event indoors.

In addition, Fire Chief Nate Trauernicht said wildfire training burns planned for this week on the university’s Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility have been called off, due to the extremely hot weather.
