Alumni Couple to Receive 2025 51�ԹϺ�� Davis Medal, University’s Highest Honor

The 2025 51�ԹϺ�� Davis Medal will be awarded to Michael C. and Renée Z. Child, who have dedicated themselves to the University of California, Davis, and their communities throughout their lives.

The alumni couple, who met as undergraduates in the early 1970s, have remained deeply committed to 51�ԹϺ�� Davis, volunteering their leadership and insight to advance many areas of the university.

When civil engineering student Tadewos Getachew ’19 was a little boy, he witnessed resource scarcity firsthand in Ethiopia. Now, he is able to pursue his dream to study water resources and solar energy at the University of California, Davis, in large part due to the AvenueE program, which is funded by philanthropy. The program provides engineering and computer science students with funding and a smooth transition from California community colleges to 51�ԹϺ�� Davis.

The 51�ԹϺ�� Davis Foundation has recognized John and Lesli Chuck ’84 with the prestigious 2018 Charles J. Soderquist Award. The annual award is presented to individuals who demonstrate excellence in philanthropy, volunteerism and leadership, and an overall commitment to the University of California, Davis.

John completed his medical residency at 51�ԹϺ�� Davis and has been a family physician with The Permanente Medical Group for 28 years. Lesli graduated from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, as did their daughter Kelly earlier this year.
